At Mellow Hound, training begins with understanding how dogs experience and respond to their environment. Behavior challenges such as reactivity, impulsivity, or difficulty settling are often influenced by arousal, stress, learning history, and the environment.
Training focuses on building regulation, communication, and practical skills that carry into everyday life..
How training works.
Training sessions are held primarily at Mellow Hound’s outdoor training field, which allows for controlled setups, flexible distance, and intentional pacing. As skills develop, sessions may also move into carefully selected public environments where we can work on generalization and real-world application.
All programs are private and structured to minimize overwhelm while supporting meaningful progress.
Programs
Structured Socialization
For dogs working on reactivity or behavior around other dogs, structured socialization sessions may be an important part of their training program.
These sessions provide opportunities to practice around other dogs in controlled setups, with distance, difficulty, and expectations adjusted to each dog's needs.
Availability for these sessions is important when enrolling in a program that includes this work. Sessions are typically scheduled during the following windows:
Thursdays & Fridays: 2:00PM–5:00 PM (winter hours)
Alternating Saturdays: 11:30 AM–2:00 PM
You do not need to be available on all three days, but you should have some flexibility within these windows to participate when appropriate.
How to choose a program
Programs differ primarily in scope, session count, and the amount of support available—not by a simple “mild, moderate, severe” classification.
During your consultation, we'll look at your dog's behavior, your goals, and the type of support that makes sense for your situation. From there, I'll recommend a starting point.
A note on expectations.
Behavior change isn't linear. Progress is influenced by the individual dog, their environment and learning history, opportunities to practice, and consistency between sessions.
I don't offer guarantees or quick fixes. Training focuses on building skills, changing patterns where possible, and giving you practical strategies for supporting your dog long term.
