Training that prioritizes regulation, clarity, and real-world function.

At Mellow Hound, training begins with an understanding of how dogs experience and respond to their environment. Many behavior challenges—whether labeled as reactivity, impulsivity, or “not listening”—are rooted in arousal, stress, and difficulty regulating emotions.

Programs are designed to support dogs and handlers through thoughtful, behavior-first training that emphasizes regulation, communication, and skills that hold up outside the living room..

How training works.

Training sessions are held primarily at Mellow Hound’s outdoor training property, which allows for controlled setups, flexible distance, and intentional pacing. As dogs build regulation and coping skills, sessions may also take place in strategically selected public environments to support generalization and real-world application.

All programs are private and structured to minimize overwhelm while supporting meaningful progress.

How to choose a program

Programs differ by session count and scope, not by severity labels or guarantees. Dogs and people learn at different rates, and behavior change does not follow a fixed timeline.

Foundational skills such as loose leash walking, settling, and “everyday manners” are taught within a behavior-first framework that prioritizes emotional regulation and real-world functionality.

Foundations of Regulation is a great starting point for building regulation, engagement, and functional skills—or for clients who want to “get their feet wet.”

Arousal & Reactivity provides more structured exposure and coaching for dogs who struggle in higher-stimulus environments.

Comprehensive Behavior offers a longer training container for teams who benefit from additional time, repetition, and layered support.

Programs & Containers

Clients may enter into any program based on their goals, needs, and desired level of support.

A note on expectations.

Behavior change is not linear, and results vary based on the dog, environment, and consistency between sessions. Mellow Hound does not offer guarantees or quick fixes. Instead, training focuses on building skills, awareness, and strategies that support long-term success.
