Before beginning structured behavior work, every team starts with a consultation. This allows us to review history, clarify goals, and determine the most appropriate program and pacing for you and your dog.
What a consultation is
A consultation is a dedicated assessment and planning session. We’ll talk through your dog’s history, current challenges, and daily routines to better understand patterns, triggers, and learning context.
This conversation helps ensure that any next steps are thoughtful, appropriate, and aligned with both your goals and your dog’s needs.
Why consultations are required
Consultations are required prior to enrolling in a training program. This allows me to recommend the right level of support and avoid mismatches that can slow progress or create unnecessary frustration.
Rather than offering one-off sessions, Mellow Hound works through structured programs designed to support regulation, learning, and long-term change.
What happens during a consultation
During your consultation, we will:
Review your dog’s history and previous training experiences
Discuss current behavior concerns and the contexts in which they occur
Explore regulation, arousal patterns, and thresholds
Clarify your goals and priorities
Determine which program is the best fit moving forward
When appropriate, you’ll leave the consultation with a small set of foundational skills to begin working on at home.
These are intended to support regulation, clarity, and form the groundwork for ongoing training if you move into a program.
Length & pricing
Consultations are scheduled for 90 minutes, with flexibility to extend up to 2 hours when needed to allow space for discussion and questions.
The consultation fee is $185
When you’re ready to begin, schedule a consultation so we can determine the best starting point together.
Consultations are not training sessions or quick fixes. They are assessment and planning conversations designed to guide thoughtful next steps.
